Is RyanAir Runnng Out of Things to Eliminate?

It seems that Ryanair is now running out of things to eliminate.

Case in point… they now they want to eliminate checked luggage.

Although some travel blogs felt this was a good thing, I need to disagree. In case you didn’t know it, Ryanair has already eliminated ticket counters. They charge an insane amount if you can’t do your check in online, but they also charge you if you do.And now, a new luggage plan…

Under the new plan, passengers drop all bags but one at the entrance to the aircraft. I’m monitoring the situation, and will report back when I have a clearer opinion. My opinion doesnt matter much though, because Ryanair doesn’t seem to care about how they are perceived by anyone.

American will offer PriorityAAccess check-in areas at all of the airports it serves worldwide.

PriorityAAccess Security Screening

Where permitted by airport policy and government security regulations, American will offer exclusive PriorityAAccess security screening lanes. Like the dedicated check-in lines, PriorityAAccess screening lanes will be clearly marked with special signage. Currently, American plans to offer PriorityAAccess screening lanes in its 10 largest airports, as well as in other airports where permitted by the TSA.

PriorityAAccess Boarding Lanes

To further enhance convenience for its top customers,American will offer dual boarding lanes at its gates – one for PriorityAAccess customers and one for general boarding. Customers with PriorityAccess privileges will be invited to board first or board at any time through their exclusive PriorityAAccess lane, which allows them to bypass lines after general boarding has begun.

How to Find Cheap Flights to Los Angeles

There are some general rules that apply to almost all flights, but there are some specific rules when it comes to flying to Los Angeles – rules that will make finding cheap flights to Los Angeles a lot more possible than you thought.

1) First and foremost, the further out you can plan your Los Angeles trip, particularly your air travel to LAX, the cheaper the flight will be. Try to book your flight to LAX at least 21 – 30 days out.

2) Very important – stay over a Saturday night!! If your trip to Los Angeles is for 5 days, plan your flight to arrive Wednesday morning to early afternoon, then return on Sunday to get a better fare. Extra tip… try mid-week flights for arrival and departure for the cheapest flights.

3) Don’t ever buy airline tickets for Friday evening or Monday morning. These are obviously the busiest times for the airlines and the airfare will reflect that. You won’t ever find cheap flights to LAX on a Friday night.

4) Avoid holiday travel to Los Angeles if you can. If you must travel to LAX for a holiday, book your flight for the actual holiday (fly in ON Christmas Day rather than Christmas Eve, for example).

5) With the exception of Thanksgiving, airfare to LAX is cheapest between November 1st and December 15th.

6) Pretty obvious, but fly from a major city – preferably a major international hub. If you live an hour outside Chicago for example, choose Chicago Ohare anyway. Take the bus or some other form of public transportation if necessary but fly from the international hubs.

7) Flights to LAX on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday will usually offer the lowest prices. The heaviest travel days TO LAX are Monday, Friday and Sunday, so the prices can be higher.

Solid gold tip!! If you are willing to be bumped from an overbooked flight, you could be given a very large discount for a future trip or possibly een a free roundtrp. If you are not in a hurry and the airline announces your flight is overbooked, ask the gate counter representative what they are offering for a volunteer “bump”.

9) Use your status as a senior citizen or a college student to get discounts – sometimes as much as 25% off! If you are at least 55 years of age or you can show a student ID, this is definitely an avenue you need to explore.

10) If you call the airlines directly, ask them for their most inexpensive flight. Believe it or not, It is not always coach. Your airline may be having a special on business travel that you qualify for. Always ask!

How do I know…?

Well, I have an airfare search alert set up on Trip Mama to notify me whenever roundtrip airfare is discovered anywhere for less than $100. Right now, Trip Mama is showing less than $100 roundtrip airfare to Las Vegas for June and July of 2012. If you want to go to Vegas in either of those months, then airfare-now.com says book it NOW!

Besides the regular, obvious reasons to visit Vegas, there are some neat events that occur in both of the months I mentioned above. In June, there’s an annual exposition of trucks, at the Las Vegas Convention. I hear its very cool and even includes a truck beauty contest.

Airfare rates are terrific for either of these events, but remember that hotels get booked way in advance and dinner reservations can be scarce – especially at steak houses!

Calling up the airlines directly to inquire about promotions and packages can often net you terrific deals that aren’t available elsewhere. Ask experienced travelers if they have ever come across airfare deals in this way and you’ll find that many of them will answer yes!

One of the main reasons these types of airfare deals are available is because of some littlle know airfare arrangements for certain categories and classes of passenger. Older men and women, for example, can get a discount on their airfare from many airlines if they purchase airfare directly.

Students can also get discounts on their airfare in many cases with a short telephone call.

New airfare deals and airfare packages come along each day as the airlines and travel agencies are constantly trying to build brand loyalty and to increase their customer base. Using airline competition is a super tactic for gaining cheap airfare deals too. Just bear in mind that the discounted airfares are non-refundable so plan accordingly.

Look up a Pittsburgh to Orlando flight with a Wednesday afternoon departure and a Wednesday afternoon return. Write down the airfare.

Now, back up your departure to a Tuesday afternoon departure with a Tuesday afternoon return and again, write down the airfare.

Finally, advance your departure to a Thursday afternoon departure with a Thursday afternoon return. What’s the airfare?

This is a no-brainer folks. The best airfare deals are almost always found on Wednesday afternoon flights!

   If you are flexible in your travel plans (meaning you don’t absolutely have to be somewhere on a specific date or a specific time), you can take advantage of the Space Available Travel program. 2. Military Discounts on Air Tickets

3. Promotional Rates and Special Deals

   Yes there are military deals, but keep in mind that military deals on airline tickets are not always the best deals out there. In many cases, special promotional rates and limited time deals that are available to civilians will offer you a better discount than the standard military rate. 

If you’re planning a trip Down Under, you will most likely benefit from these 4 handy tips for finding cheap airfare to Australia:

1. Find out which airlines use airports in Australia as their hub. Qantas and Virgin Blue are airline giants with hubs at the Sydney Airport, but there are many more to chose from as well.

2. Schedule your Australia flights for midweek. Scheduling your flights for Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays can save you lots of money on airfare to Australia.

3. Visit Australia during the low season. Airfare has a high season price and a low season price, and it’s important to note that Australia is in the southern hemisphere so its seasons are opposite of most of the rest of the world’s population. In general, you’ll find the lowest airfare to Australia during their winter.

4. Try flying into a different city. Australia has two major international airports (Sydney and Melbourne), so try both airports when making your air travel plans.
